What was the advice given to Nick by his father? How, do you suppose, this makes him a good person to tell this story?  In the beginning of chapter one, Nick says how his father gave him one piece of advice that he has always taken with him. He said, “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had”. This made him a good narrator for the story because he had a more open mind in comparison to other characters we meet throughout the story. But as he is only one individual he can only speak on behalf of his opinions and perspective. I believe that this advice Nick’s father gave him as a youth shaped him into being a person who sees the world through the view of nonjudgmental eyes.
How is West Egg different from East Egg? Which do you think you would rather live in and why?                                   West Egg is where the people with “new money” live and East Egg is where the people with “old money” live. New money is money that people have earned on their own. Old money is money that people have inherited. In the story Nick lives in West Egg and Daisy lives in East Egg. Showing that Nick had to earn what he has, whilst Daisy simply was born into her wealth.

If I were to live in either West Egg or East egg I’d choose to live in West Egg because I’d rather have an understanding of the world and know it all first hand, rather than seeing the world from a camera lens. Which means I’d rather live a life knowing the catastrophe that the world is going though rather than only seeing the world from what everyone says I should see, I wouldn’t want to be oblivious.

If you were going to pick one colour to connect with Daisy Buchanan, what colour would it be?Explain your reasoning.

If I were to choose one colour to represent Daisy I’d choose White, symbolically the colour white represents wealth and purity. I don’t believe that Daisy is pure in any sense. But I do know that she is wealthy. Another reason I chose white to represent Daisy was due to her naivety when it comes to her views on the world. She sees the world of which that surrounds her as a blank canvas of longevity. That she must accept the way things are in a passive aggressive manner, so she doesn’t spoil the worlds perfect view of her and her family.
